Laura Kay is Professor of Physics & Astronomy, and Women's, Gender, & Sexuality Studies, at Barnard College (Columbia University, NY, NY).
She teaches courses on Life in the Universe, Cosmology, Polar Exploration, and Women & Science, and was the lead author and co-author respectively of the textbooks 21c Astronomy and Understanding our Universe.
She spent 13 months as a winter-over scientist in the Dome at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole station in 1984-1985, and most certainly will hurl if she reads one more novel about an 'icy' 'emotionally frozen' woman scientist who 'defrosts' in Antarctica (and 'surprise' is pregnant).
